Sean Woods back from Hong Kong with a bang as first runner is a winner

Sean Woods had a dream start to his second spell as a Newmarket-based trainer when the juvenile General Panic overturned some fancied types on his debut in the 5f novice stakes.

Woods, who trained in Hong Kong for nearly 20 years, is now operating out of Jeremy Noseda's former base at Shalfleet Stables where he has 30 horses.

Despite being drawn widest of all in stall one, General Panic got a nice tow into the race from the well-fancied fellow newcomer Robbie Roger and was well on top at the finish.

The landmark win was also a rare ride at the track for James Doyle, who was maintaining his 100 per cent strike-rate at the venue in the last five years.

Woods said: "It's nice to start back with a win but what is more important is that these youngsters have a good first experience. General Panic has always been professional at home and is one of two juveniles I have ready to run. It's nice that we also bred the horse on our farm at Brook Stud in Cheveley."

Woods has capacity for 93 horses at his new yard but is in no rush to fill them. He said: "I think we've the best located yard in Newmarket as it's just across the road on to the Heath and you can easily go to the working grounds on either side of town."

Morris in top gear

Luke Morris may have missed out on the all-weather champion jockey title this year but showed he's a still a force to be reckoned with with a double highlighted by a first win for Professor Galant.

The 3-1 chance, trained by Gay Kelleway, won emphatically at the 11th attempt in the 6f novice median auction stakes before which Morris had steered Send In The Clouds home for Tony Carroll in the 7f handicap.
