Nick Scholfield illustrated his talent and determination in the saddle with a hard-fought double as his victories came by just a head in two thrilling finishes.

The Grade 1-winning jockey started the afternoon by producing the Nigel Twiston-Davies-trained Ballintubber Boy to perfection in the 2m6f maiden hurdle, before he completed the double in the 2m2½f handicap hurdle aboard Kilchreest Moon.

Kilchreest Moon's trainer Henry Oliver was quick to praise Scholfield and said: "Nick gave him a lovely ride and was very positive. He ran a bit flat at Worcester in the summer, so we gave him a break and went back to his owners for four weeks.

"He came back and ran fresh and keen the last day but was forgiven for that, he was a massive price today.”

Oliver has reduced the numbers in his yard this season, but remains optimistic with the quality of his string as the campaign gets into full swing.

He added: "I haven't got as many horses as I had last year – probably about half as many – but I have some nice ones and quite a few youngsters coming through."

Twiston-Davies went on to double up in his own right when One Forty Seven got up on the line to win the 2m5f handicap chase.
