Peter Bowen eyeing big summer prizes after Landofsmiles bags Perth Gold Cup
Landofsmiles continues to deliver for Peter Bowen in a sensational chasing season as he battled to victory in the Perth Gold Cup to retain his unbeaten record at the course.
The eight-year-old won his fourth race in six starts this year, putting in a bold jumping performance under James Bowen, who also won the opener on Will Carver, to see off Talkischeap by a neck.
"He’s quite tough, and just the most amazing jumper," said the trainer. "James gets on great with him and he’s improved a lot since he’s been chasing – he's very quick from A to B.
"When he got beat the last time it was my fault as I ran him a bit too quickly, but he’s a lovely horse at home, always sound and straightforward."
Connections already have their eyes on more big summer prizes, with Bowen adding: "I don't think the handicapper will be too harsh, so we might look at the Summer Cup at Uttoxeter next, or possibly the Summer Plate at Market Rasen."
Carver cruises home
Will Carver landed his second win on the bounce with an impressive 13-length romp in the 2m4f novice hurdle.
The Nicky Henderson-trained six-year-old made easy work of his opponents and seems a potential future star for the Seven Barrows team.
