No irons, no problem! Richard Patrick rides remarkable winner at Hereford

Richard Patrick defied losing his irons and nearly being unseated after the final flight to galvanise Fay Ce Que Voudras to a remarkable victory in the 2m mares' novice handicap hurdle.

The seven-year-old looked in control of the race before her shuddering error, which saw the rider lose his left iron before becoming unbalanced and nearly unseating, then losing his right iron.

However, the jockey quickly recovered his composure and rallied Fay Ce Que Voudras to win by two and a half lengths from 22-1 outsider Crem Fresh.

"I was trying to get a bit of company going down to the last, but she had such a good look around and ploughed through it. Thankfully I stayed on!" Patrick told Sky Sports Racing.

"I tried to shift my weight to stay on and nearly went out the other way, but luckily we managed to get the job done."

Fay Ce Que Voudras completed a double for Patrick and trainer Kerry Lee following Greenrock Abbey's victory in the 2m novice handicap chase, and the trainer was equally in awe of the jockey's recovery.

Lee said: "It was brilliant riding, there are plenty of times where it doesn't go our way and Richard did amazingly well.

"They both really wanted to win. It was only her third run and you can forgive her for that bit of inexperience."

Tickle triumphs

Joe Tickle ended a 634-day wait for a jumps winner when Kingcormac won the 2m5f handicap chase under Harry Cobden, which was his eighth winner from his last 17 rides.
