More than £10,000 traded at 1.01 before Versatility unseats rider after the last

There was drama in the 3m handicap chase as the Ian Williams-trained Psychedelic Rock took advantage of Versatility unseating Nico de Boinville after the last fence when in a clear lead, with £10,037 traded at the minimum 1.01 in-running on the Betfair Exchange.

Versatility looked set to complete a hat-trick for trainer Nicky Henderson – who won earlier on the card with Adjali and Will Carver – after jumping the last with a three-length lead, but stumbled upon landing and parted company with De Boinville, leaving conditional jockey Charlie Todd with a clear passage to the line.

Henderson said: “That was just annoying, it was stupid. I hoped with the new season starting we could avoid things like that! He’s going to the sales soon and at least he hasn’t done his sales pitch any harm because he’s shown what he can do."

How the incident unfolded

On his pair of winners, Henderson added: "I‘ve been very pleased with all the horses that have run today. Adjali was much better and looked very professional. We wanted to retain Will Carver’s novice status, which is why we waited until here, and he’s a very promising horse."

Nicholls dreaming big

After finishing third behind Tritonic in the Grade 2 Adonis Hurdle on his hurdling debut, promising four-year-old Paso Doble had champion trainer Paul Nicholls plotting more high-profile targets after getting off the mark in the 2m novice hurdle.

Nicholls told Racing TV: "He’s got a lot of ability. He didn’t do a tap in front and ideally he’d like a fast-run race.

"I wouldn’t be afraid to look at the Grade 2 Persian War at Chepstow with him over two and a half miles, he’d definitely get that trip and he's not slow."

Winning jockey Bryony Frost completed a double for Nicholls with Fidelio Vallis in the 2m2f handicap chase, before sealing her hat-trick on the Lucy Wadham-trained Sorbet in the 2m mares' handicap hurdle.
