Milton Harris hits personal-best tally as Global Agreement flies home late

The resurgence of Milton Harris has been one of the stories of the season and the trainer set a career-best tally when Global Agreement powered home late in the two-mile handicap hurdle.

Although operating with a dual purpose licence, jumping is the main focus for Harris and the victory took him to 33 for the campaign to surpass his previous best of 32 in 2010-11.

Since that time the trainer suffered a seven-year spell in the wilderness after declaring himself bankrupt, but he got his licence back just over three years ago and has steadily built up his new base at Warminster to become a force again.

The 7-4 winner carries the colours of the Global Partnership and owner John Naylor said: "Milton is having a great season, as everybody knows, and I've been with him for many years as part of a group of owners called the Faithful Followers. We've kept with him even through the bad times because we've known how good he's been."

Global Agreement had a mountain to climb at the last but flew past Morgenstern close home to get up by a length under Kevin Jones.

"He didn't travel the pace they were going early on and probably needed every inch of that trip," said the jockey, who needs two more winners to ride out his claim.

"It's great riding for a trainer in form and he's still got a few horses that haven't shown their faces. Hopefully, they can carry on through the rest of the winter leading to Cheltenham."

Owners raise a glass to Foillan

The Midlands-based Hold My Beer Syndicate will cast their eyes north again after Foillan won a qualifier for the three-day £285,000 Racing Post Go North Series in March.

The Richard Newland-trained seven-year-old showed a willing attitude under Charlie Hammond to get the better off well-backed 10-11 favourite Readysteadybeau in the three-mile handicap hurdle.

Foillan's owners are set to target the final of the Brindisi Breeze Stayers' Hurdle Series on the opening day at Musselburgh on March 25, with Kelso and Carlisle staging the other finals.

Dubliner Tom Hughes, one of the five-strong winning syndicate, said: "It was a very good performance. He jumped much better than he did at Southwell and needed the softer ground.

"Hopefully, we'll be going for the final. It's a good initiative with the prize-money the way it is, as you want to be getting every penny you can."

Winner for the 'king'

Will Kennedy was thrilled to carry the famous green and gold silks of JP McManus to victory on Guetapan Collonges in the 2m5½f handicap chase.

"I've had a winner for the Queen and I always say riding in these silks is like riding for the king," said the jockey. "He's the man you want to be riding winners for and thankfully I've had another one today."

The Charlie Longsdon-trained winner bounded clear to score impressively by 14 lengths and Kennedy added: "I came here today thinking he had a great chance and we always thought he would be a chaser."

Seven shows promise

Burrow Seven, the horse named in honour of former rugby league player Rob Burrow by a racing club raising money for motor neurone disease research, finished a promising second in the bumper, which was won in impressive fashion by the Rebecca Menzies-trained Bolton.
