Monday: Pontefract

Pontefract's final meeting of the season may have featured a potential Classic contender as the Charlie Appleby-trained Local Dynasty knuckled down to narrowly win the Listed Silver Tankard Stakes.

Irish Derby winner Westover finished second in the feature £40,000 contest last season and Ralph Beckett also had the runner-up this time with Luckin Brew beaten a neck by the Godolphin-owned Local Dynasty.

The son of Dubawi has only been beaten in the Group 3 Acomb Stakes in his juvenile season with William Buick helping the colt secure a third win from four outings.

“The ground is quite testing here so it became a bit of a slog in the last furlong," said the champion jockey to Racing TV. "He's big, he’s got a beautiful pedigree and he’s related to some very good horses so there's plenty of hope for next year with him.”

Dunlopon song

Orchestra made it a rapid across-the-card double for Ed Dunlop when shedding his maiden tag in the mile nursery.

Dunlop, who was also successful at Windsor with Richard P Smith ten minutes before Orchestra got off the mark under Neil Callan, said: “He liked the ground. He’s by Golden Horn so he could get further. Hopefully, he can keep progressing from two to three.

"We might run him again but we’re probably running out of options. I thought he was really tough today and we suspected somewhere like Pontefract would suit him.”
