'It's a great privilege' - Whittington notches first winner for Munir and Souede
Harry Whittington is excited to see what the future holds with owners Simon Munir and Isaac Souede after Raffles Gitane became the first winner in the renowned double green silks for the trainer.
Out of the owners' Grade 1-winning chaser Gitane Du Berlais, the four-year-old raced three times without winning in France but made a perfect start to life in Britain, grinding out success under Daryl Jacob – his sole ride on the card – in the 2m fillies' juvenile maiden hurdle.
Whittington, who was thrilled with a first victory for the owners at the fifth attempt, hopes it will be a springboard to more success.
"We're really pleased to get our first winner on the board in the double green – to get off the mark for them is important and very special," he said.
"We've got three horses including this one in their colours. We're thrilled they're with us and we're very fortunate to have horses from them. It's a great privilege."
Of Raffles Gitane, he added: "She showed a fabulous attitude in conditions that weren't in her favour – she showed guts to grind it out that well. She arrived in mid-December and I've been happy with the way she's trained. We're looking forward to better things."
Bishop back among winners
Winners have been a rarity for Kevin Bishop in recent years and he ended a 507-day spell without success when Just Go For It scored in the 2m5½f novice handicap hurdle.
