Grant Tuer maintained his remarkable run of form by equalling his total of winners from last year despite sending out just a third of the number of runners.

His 11th success of 2021 came courtesy of a first victory for Seventeen O Four, who scored on his turf debut under Sam James in the 1m4f handicap.

Tuer said: "I thought it was very competitive last year after the lockdown. It was incredibly tough to win and we had a heck of a lot of second places.

"Seventeen O Four appreciated the soft ground and he’s won well enough, so we’ll probably stick to the turf for now."

The win was Tuer’s first for owner Ed Ware, the founder of 32Red who moved the four-year-old to his North Yorkshire yard in March.

"He’s been very kind to me," Tuer said. "I begged him to send me one and give me a chance, so I’m thrilled he’s won. Hopefully it will be the first of a few!"

Tuer’s best season came in 2019 when he trained 21 winners from 122 runners.

Faith rewarded

It Must Be Faith gave apprentice jockey Erika Parkinson the first win of her career in 2019 and the partnership struck again with a 25-1 success in the veterans’ handicap.

Parkinson has now recorded four of her seven wins on the Michael Appleby trained-11-year-old, who snatched victory from Captain Jameson in a photo-finish by a nose.
