Is Lincoln winner Haqeeqy a top-level performer in the making?

'He would need significant improvement'

He could be, but let's not forget that jockey Benoit de la Sayette was claiming 7lb and gave him a beautiful ride.

That means Haqeeqy, in effect, won the Lincoln off a mark of 93 and he would need significant improvement to make it at the top level. That can't be ruled out, though.

He has now won four from six and is evidently very progressive.

'It is too soon to tell'

Put simply, it is too soon to tell. The vibes surrounding the horse in the days before the Lincoln were very strong and the manner of the success suggests this race had been the target for some time.

A step up in grade is inevitable now and there is no reason why his progress should cease any time soon.

John Gosden turned Lord North into one of the world's best middle-distance horses after beginning him in handicaps and while Haqeeqy will have go some to match his esteemed stablemate the blueprint for the new Gosden team is there.

Addeybb went to the Group 2 bet365 Mile at Sandown after winning this in 2018 and that could be a good next step for Haqeeqy to make his graduation into the Pattern ranks.

'He's still got plenty to prove'

He could be. There’s no way I expected Addeybb and Lord Glitters to reach the level they have when they finished first and second in the same event three years ago, but look what they’ve achieved since, and this did look a good running with the first three kicking clear of the field.

Haqeeqy was effectively racing off just 93 here so he’s still got plenty to prove to suggest he’s up to Pattern level. But there’s no doubt about the winning rider’s ability.

Benoit de la Sayette is just star quality and his poise and timing is amazing. He’s going right to the top.
James Hill, tipster
