'I fully expect her to handle Epsom - she looks like the next Oaks winner'

Yes. That's the simple answer to the question of whether Emily Upjohn looks like an Oaks winner.

She was impressive when winning at Sandown on her seasonal debut and looked even better in the Musidora.

A bit keen early, she briefly looked like she might have a battle on her hands in the straight, but there was a lot to like about the way she finished her race and she quickly put several lengths between herself and the rest when asked. The longer trip at Epsom should suit.

She looks a big filly and the main worry would be the undulations at Epsom. However, I fully expect her to handle them and she is open to plenty of further progress.

Her time was nothing special and she only beat horses who had recorded RPRs in the 80s. But both runner-up Life Of Dreams and third-placed Ching Shih went into the race as unexposed potential improvers and Emily Upjohn disposed of them with the minimum of fuss.

After the race Frankie Dettori seemed convinced Emily Upjohn won in spite of ground that rode more testing than advertised and she could be even better when encountering quicker conditions.

It’s hard to find too many reasons why she won’t do the business come Oaks day. It will take a very smart filly to beat her.
