Saturday: Wetherby

Charlie Hammond showcased his skills in the saddle when guiding the David Pipe-trained Sidi Ismael to an effortless chasing debut win in the 3m novice handicap chase.

The jockey is having his first professional season without his claim, but that did not stop him from reaching 19 winners quicker than he ever has done before.

"That’s my 19th winner this season, I’m ahead of any other season and it’s my first without a claim – things are going really well." Hammond told Racing TV. "I have ridden for David a few times, he had 14 runners today, I was here and lucky enough to pick up the ride."

On the 13-2 shot's win in first-time cheekpieces, he added: "I’m over the moon with that performance, you wouldn't believe it was his first time over fences, he’s jumped for fun and he travelled nicely throughout the race.

"I watched him the last day at Lingfield when he won and he was behind the bridle, they’ve put cheekpieces on and it’s really helped him.

"I spoke to Scu [Tom Scudamore] this morning and he gave me a few tips. He told me not to get there too soon, which I ended up doing because he travelled that well – it worked out nicely though.”

Quinlan double

Sean Quinlan landed a double on the card, scoring first on Ladronne for trainer Tjade Collier in the 2m3½f handicap chase before comfortably landing the feature 3m handicap chase aboard the Richard Bandey-trained Saint Palais.
