Monday: Catterick

Talamanca bagged his second nursery in the space of seven days – and his trainer Richard Spencer is eyeing two more races for the gelding before the week is out.

The 6-4 favourite shrugged off a 6lb penalty for a runaway victory at Windsor last week, making all in the hands of Taylor Fisher for a comfortable success in the 6f contest.

Spencer is keen to keep Talamanca on the go while he is in such red-hot form and has entered him for races at Wolverhampton on Friday and Lingfield the following day.

"He could well run in both of them as long as he is okay after running in the Wolverhampton race," said Spencer.

"The Lingfield race is dropping back to five furlongs but he has plenty of pace, so I am not worried about that."

Even if he does take part in those two races, Talamanca is unlikely to be resting on his laurels.

Spencer added: "He’s gone up 12lb in the weights for the Windsor win but I’m not planning on giving him a break after the weekend. If they are fit and well and in good form, I believe you have to keep running them."

Maiden Flat win

Trainer Sam England registered her first success on the Flat this season when Hot Scoop produced a powerful late burst to lead close home in the 5f handicap.

Deja vu

Rain Cap notched his third success in his last four outings with a game effort in the 6f handicap under Sean Kirrane.

The five-year-old, trained by John Riches, denied old foe Quercus for the second time at this track this month.
