A host of major juvenile contests including the Mill Reef Stakes could be on the agenda for Rizg after his impressive debut in the feature 6f novice under Hollie Doyle.

The Roger Varian-trained son of No Nay Never had a tough task on paper against Windsor Castle Stakes runner-up Dig Two, but he quickened smartly to win by half a length without Doyle having to give serious urging.

Rizg, who carries the colours of Doyle's retainer Imad Alsagar, is entered in the £200,000 sales race at Doncaster's St Leger meeting next month as well as the Group 2 Mill Reef at Newbury, and the jockey believes he can make up into a high-class performer.

She said: "He's shown us plenty at home and we've always thought a lot of him, so it's a big relief he has translated that to the track. We couldn't wait to run him. We were always waiting for the right track and ground, which it was today.

"The way he travelled and the way he picked up makes me think he's a classy performer. He showed a nice attitude to beat a really decent horse [Dig Two]. It was great."

Rizg's success took Doyle's formidable Yarmouth strike-rate to 25 per cent and she added: "It's a place I'm really fond of. It has a great atmosphere too, which makes it even more brilliant."

Dunnett back on track

Christine Dunnett ended her long losing streak when tricky customer Shyjack took the 1m1f handicap.

The trainer, based in Norfolk just outside Hingham, ended a 190-day spell without a winner and victory was made even sweeter as Shyjack is owned by her racing club.

"It's been a long time coming to get back on the board and to get it at my local track means a lot," she said. "Lots of my members are here to see it, so I'm chuffed to bits.

"He's an old devil. He's got so much ability but getting it out of him hasn't been easy. He's always been thereabouts but has let us down a few times. Eoin [Walsh] gave him a great ride."

Marquand on the mark

Tom Marquand is not giving up in his quest for a first jockeys' championship after registering a double on the card.

Super Proud landed the 1m2f handicap before Maajdah's narrow victory in the 6f novice took Marquand to 72 winners, leaving him 16 behind runaway leader Oisin Murphy in the title race.

He said: "It's a grind but there's nearly three months left, that's a long way to go. Anything can happen – positive or negative – and I'll be turning up every day trying to ride winners and give it a go."
