'He hasn't put a foot wrong' - Fehily excited as his syndicate horse impresses

Former Grade 1-winning jockey and now syndicate ambassador Noel Fehily looks to have unearthed an exciting prospect in Universal Dave, who landed an easy success the 2m3f maiden hurdle.

Fehily, a Champion Hurdle winner on Rock On Ruby and Buveur D'Air, has been at the forefront of the racing syndicate bearing his name since retiring from the saddle in 2019 and could have a flagbearer for the season with the Alan King-trained five-year-old, who bolted up by 13 lengths under Tom Cannon.

"It's absolutely brilliant, especially for all the people that are involved, all the members," Fehily said.

"In fairness to the horse he hasn't put a foot wrong, he's been very straightforward since the first day Alan had him. He's had nothing but good things to say – I'm just glad it all came together today."

When asked about future aspirations, Fehily added: "We'll probably go for a winners race or a novice [hurdle] under a penalty. We won't get carried away too soon, we'll let the horse do the talking. Hopefully he will take us to some good tracks along the way."

Moore the merrier

Gary Moore continued his fine form when landing a double with son Jamie aboard for both successes.

Darebin thrived in first-time cheekpieces to win the 2m2f handicap chase by six lengths, before Haddex Des Obeaux went one better than his British debut at the same course earlier this month in the 2m3f handicap hurdle.
