Saturday: Newbury

Harry Redknapp was left a little disappointed despite the success of Moktasaab – his first horse with William Knight – in the 1m2f handicap.

The former West Ham and Tottenham Hotspur manager said: "I've had a great day and really enjoyed it. We fancied him, but I missed the price – he was 10-1 last night.

"I think what happened was William had a winner yesterday and this horse had done a bit of work with that one and the whispers must have got out.

"I was having some dinner with my wife last night and said it was 10-1 and that it would get bigger, but ten minutes later it was 6-1!"

My Prospero delights Haggas and Marquand

Newmarket ace William Haggas netted division one of the mile maiden with My Prospero, and we could be hearing plenty more about the nicely bred son of Iffraaj.

"His half-brother won yesterday at Newcastle and his half-sister runs at Kempton on Monday, so it would be quite the treble," said Haggas, who trains the promising newcomer for the Tsui family, who hit the heights with the exceptional Sea The Stars.

My Prospero might not reach that level, but he is smart and his jockey Tom Marquand liked him a lot.

"He's a baby, but a big horse," Haggas added. "I hope we're talking about a talented horse and he's always been nice. I was disappointed when he was beaten at Newmarket. He hasn't got any fancy entries yet, but might be getting one and Royal Ascot entries close soon.

"They looked a nice bunch in that race and he was very rowdy in the paddock, so hopefully it will do him good. He shouldn't stay further than this, but if he's going to be a decent horse he needs to focus more. He'll learn from this."

Max-imum delight

The John Porter Stakes, backed by Dubai Duty Free, went to Max Vega and trainer Ralph Beckett, who was full of praise for rider Rob Hornby.

"We'll have three or four jockeys on the roster this year – Hector Crouch, Rossa Ryan, Laura Pearson and Rob – and if an owner wants someone else then we'll accommodate that," said Beckett.

"Rob's very reliable and sits quite deep on a horse, and he's a good horsemen with a good pair of hands."

Tregoning thrilled

Morghom won division two of the mile maiden in the Shadwell blue, much to the delight of trainer Marcus Tregoning.

"I'm sure he's quite good," he said. "I've got five for Shadwell, a nice little five, which isn't as many as usual, but times and things change. We're lucky to have five and I'd take five like him."
