On a day when Hollie Doyle once again showcased her brilliance with a four-timer, enthusiastic young jockey Jack Lander was able to celebrate his own special moment.

Lander, on just his fourth ride, displayed commendable cool to secure his first success aboard Tele Red in the amateur jockeys' handicap.

The 16-year-old has already done his bit for the sport, having undertaken several charity walks to raise money for the Injured Jockeys Fund and Racing Together.

“I’m delighted for him – he’s a great lad,” Tele Red’s trainer Karl Burke said. “He joined us about a year ago and he works very hard.

“He was a little novicey in his first few rides but he did exactly as we instructed him today. I told him to make the running or sit in second if the pace was fast and he worked it out just right.”

Doyle just devastating

Doyle was at her brilliant best in securing narrow victories on Look Back Smiling, Kincade, Global Spirit and Corinthia Knight.

Trainer Jedd O’Keefe, responsible for Kincade and the runner-up Nikhi in the 2m1f handicap, said: “It was an exciting race and a perfectly judged ride from Hollie, although I do think it was a shame that Nikhi was not quite able to get there.

“I feel sorry for Jack Garritty as he normally rides both of the horses but he couldn't do the weight on either of them.”

Global Spirit squeezed home by a head in the 6f handicap and trainer Roger Fell believes the gelding might not have won had it not been for Doyle.

“The horse would have found it much easier on softer ground and he might well not have won today if it wasn’t for the jockey. She was brilliant,” he said.
