Saturday: Newmarket

Frankie Dettori penned his own film script when steering Lezoo to an impressive win in the Listed Maureen Brittain Memorial Empress Fillies' Stakes before treating the busy July course crowd to a flying dismount.

Having been greeted by a ripple of applause entering the paddock before the six-furlong contest, the troubled jockey was flooded by congratulations after ending a turbulent week with Lezoo's classy success.

The Ralph Beckett-trained juvenile, who was sporting the colours of Dettori's friend Marc Chan, backed up her recent debut win at Bath to book a return ticket to the course for next month's July festival.

Jamie McCalmont, racing manager to Chan, said: "What can you say about Frankie? We're thrilled with that and it's great the reception he got after the race.

"We bought this filly in France seven weeks ago and we didn't expect her to win at Bath as easily as she did, but that was good enough to come here and she has shown the same class again. We'll probably come back for the Group 2 Duchess of Cambridge Stakes at the July meeting when hopefully Frankie can ride her again."

There were emotional scenes afterwards when Clive Brittain gave out the prizes for the race named in honour of his late wife, including a bottle of champagne to Dettori.

Paddy Power quote the winner at 33-1 for next year's Qipco 1,000 Guineas.

Pogo sticks it to them

Pogo confirmed the form with some of the vanquished from last month's win at Haydock when defying a penalty in the featured Group 3 Criterion Stakes.

Charlie Hills's stalwart served it up to his five rivals from flagfall and found more when challenged by Sunray Major on the climb to the line to score by two lengths.

The winner, who was cut to 7-1 (from 8) by Betfair for the Group 2 Lennox Stakes at Goodwood, continued the good run of Kieran Shoemark in East Anglia.

He said: "I thought Sunray Major was going to be hard to beat as I kind of stole the race around the bend at Haydock, but Pogo has proved that was no fluke."

Trebles for Buick and Godolphin

Rebel's Romance earned a quote of 33-1 for the Breeders' Cup Classic after registering a first win on turf in the Listed Fred Archer Stakes.

The chunky four-year-old was the highlight of another productive Saturday on the July course for William Buick in rounding off a treble.

Charlie Appleby's gelding was preferred by Buick to stablemate Kemari in the 1m4f contest and his judgement was spot on.

Alex Merriam, assistant to Appleby, said: "That was nice first time on turf and it opens up other doors."

Stablemate Fairy Cross had a hard act to follow in the opening 7f fillies' maiden, which was won last year by dual Group 1 winner Inspiral, but scored comfortably for Buick.

Merriam said: "She did that nicely and the hope is she can bag some black type somewhere down the road."

Buick registered the middle leg of his treble in the mile fillies' handicap on Ashky for Harry and Roger Charlton.

Warm Smile completed a treble for the Godolphin blue when winning the closing 1m2f handicap for the Saeed bin Suroor/Danny Tudhope combination.
