Expert jury: which colt from the Dewhurst can make the biggest impact next year?
'No luck and should not be forgotten'
A big field and soft ground makes immediate analysis of this season's Dewhurst tougher, but the National Stakes form was upheld in no uncertain terms as the first three home filled the same positions, albeit in a different order, on the Rowley Mile.
Of that trio Wembley probably had the trickiest trip. He was last at halfway and did well to come from off the pace.
He, Thunder Moon and winner St Mark's Basilica should be under 2,000 Guineas consideration but it's difficult to say who will emerge as a star. Chindit also had no luck in running and should not be forgotten come next spring.

'One who can take a big step forward'
On form this looked a fairly strong Dewhurst and St Mark's Basilica was a good winner, but Wembley is the horse I was most impressed by and he makes much more appeal in next year's 2,000 Guineas market.
He raced from the rear and showed a smart turn of foot to stay on strongly and finish close to his winning stablemate. He shaped as if a strongly run mile would be ideal and looks one who can take a big step forward as a three-year-old.
A lot can change between now and next spring and I wouldn't be surprised if there's a completely new name at the top of the betting when the runners go to post for the first Classic of 2021.

'I'm not sure who can beat him'
Definitely Wembley. Considering where he came from, I thought he ran a massive race to sweep through right from the back of the field and nearly snatch the prize from stablemate St Mark's Basilica.
That's the second time he's seen out a Group 1 to serious effect, having also finished with a fair rattle to earn second in last month's National Stakes at the Curragh, and I have no doubt the son of Galileo will get a mile next May. In fact, other than his stablemate Battleground, I'm not sure who can beat him.
With High Definition looking a top Derby prospect at present, Ballydoyle should be heading into the winter holding all the aces for the colts' Classics.
