How would you get to the 1,000 Guineas with emerging juvenile star Inspiral?

'Straight for the Classic would be my call'

Frankie Dettori’s post-race comments on Inspiral were fascinating and seemed to hit the nail on the head with her, namely she is good but she can be better with more physical development.

As such, you would expect her appearances to be limited this season, most likely with the Group 1 Fillies’ Mile at Newmarket in a month rounding things off. With that, she would be done for the year with an eye to the Classics at Newmarket and Epsom.

It will be interesting during that period to see how the Gosden and Cheveley Park Stud teams assess her, with the dam’s pedigree pointing to a mile as the best route, while the best of the Frankels – the likes of Adayar, Hurricane Lane and Cracksman – have wanted further. For my money, the 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket would be front and centre of plans for 2022 with her.

Given she would be a Group 1-winning miler as a two-year-old by that point, straight for the Classic would be my call.

'I'm not a huge fan of going straight to big assignments without a prep'

I was pretty impressed by what I saw from Inspiral at Doncaster, she won like a long odds-on favourite should while still giving the impression there's a lot more to come.

Given Frankie Dettori touched upon the daughter of Frankel being "all frame", it would make sense to let her develop and strengthen up.

Therefore, I would either go to the Fillies' Mile to end the season then go straight for the Guineas next year. Or, if connections feel she has done enough as a juvenile, pull stumps for this season then take in a trial before the Qipco 1,000 Guineas. I'm not a huge fan of horses going straight to big assignments without a prep, as no amount of work at home can replicate the race itself.

'There is no need to overcomplicate matters'

At this stage there is no more obvious contender for next year's fillies' Classics, and there is no need for Cheveley Park and the Gosdens to overcomplicate matters.

One more run in Group 1 company this year – with connections seemingly set on that being the Fillies' Mile at Newmarket – will do fine and she would be a short price to extend her unbeaten streak to four there.

If Inspiral progresses over the winter as Frankie Dettori hopes she will, then they will be set for a lucrative summer and there would be no problem in heading straight to the 1,000 Guineas. The lack of a prep run will not hinder her chance if the filly is as good as she has looked thus far.
