It was a flying start for new syndicate Foxtrot Racing The Red Caps as the group landed a double with their first jump runners.

Cheers were heard as around 20 members of the syndicate shouted home Tiger Orchid and Blue Ribbon, both under Sam Twiston-Davies for Richard Newland.

Dan Abraham, who spearheads the syndicate, a separate entity to the well-established Foxtrot Racing, said: "We just want to get people back racing and have a lot of fun, so it’s a fantastic way for us to have started.

"Everyone who wanted to was able to come today, and even those who weren’t had an at-home racecourse experience.

"Covid has put us in a corner where we had to figure out what we could do that we didn’t do before. We use Zoom calls, forums and yard visits to give an at-home experience and it’s really helped."

Newland, who is based five miles from the racecourse, selected and paid the up-front cost of the syndicate’s five horses.

Newland said: "This was a new concept, gathering a team and leasing them to one big group of 50 owners.

"It’s great to have the owners at the track today. All of us can't wait until we get back to a level of normality. It’s not quite the same but we’re getting there."

Skelton back in business

Champion jockey Harry Skelton returned to the saddle after a ten-day absence from the racecourse, four of which were due to a suspension picked up in April.

Skelton didn’t take long to pick up old habits, notching a win with Presenting Jeremy for brother Dan.
