Celebrations all round as Jimmy Moffatt enjoys double on father's 86th birthday
It was a good day for the Moffatt family as Jimmy enjoyed a double on the day that his father, former Cheltenham Festival-winning trainer Dudley, celebrated his 86th birthday.
Moffatt snr, who trained Home Counties to win the County and Scottish Champion Hurdles in 1995, was at the course to witness 7-2 joint-favourite Jelski put a poor run last month behind him to take the 2m6f handicap hurdle before Dressedforsuccess completed a hat-trick in the 3m1½f handicap chase.
His son, who trains less than a mile away from the track, was delighted to reward his father on a day when all restrictions on tracks in England were lifted. He said: "It's great to do it on his birthday. He only stopped riding out two years ago! He built up the yard and I'm very proud of him."
Both winners were ridden by conditional jockey Charlotte Jones, who now has an impressive eight wins from just 18 rides at the course this season.
Jones, who has a first-class degree in Equine Science and also recently set up a gin company with boyfriend Sam Bedlow, a centre for Premiership Rugby side Bristol Bears, was pleased to keep the winning trend going.
She told Racing TV: "It’s always a good place for us to come. It’s my local track and we get a lot of support here so we like to target it with a lot of our horses."
Double for Candlish
Theo Gillard rode his first winner for Jennie Candlish when he guided Catchmeifyoucan to a second win in a row following the seven-year-old's victory at Uttoxeter on Wednesday.
The 5lb claimer helped negate the penalty to kickstart a double on the day for Candlish as For Jim later took the 2m6f handicap hurdle in the hands of Sean Quinlan.
Presentandcounting bolts up
Gillard’s boss Donald McCain took the 2m5f novice handicap chase as Presentandcounting made it three wins in four starts over fences with a 14-length success under Brian Hughes.
