Master Of The Seas has an abundance of natural ability, but is not entirely straightforward and William Buick deserves plenty of plaudits for getting him home in front.

If he relaxes in the Guineas, he must have a massive chance. La Barrosa is a horse I've loved from day one, but he's not entered at Newmarket.

The ease with which he travelled through the contest was easy on the eye and he will be a major player in the Irish 2,000 Guineas if he goes to the Curragh.

'Buick has a serious choice'

Master Of The Seas probably didn’t have to improve on ratings from his hard-pulling fourth in the National Stakes to win the Craven, but the manner with which he picked up La Barrosa after enduring a difficult trip suggests he is better than the bare result.

Stablemate One Ruler has been all the rage this week after impressing in a racecourse gallop on Wednesday and the betting suggests he will be the choice of William Buick.

But the manner of this success will have given him a serious choice to make between two serious candidates.

'I took the 12-1'

I thought Master Of The Seas merited a single-figure price for the 2,000 Guineas on the evidence of that display and I took the 12-1.

Not much went right for last year's Superlative Stakes winner, who quickened smartly down the Dip when the gap finally arrived in what looked a reasonable running of the Craven.

Master Of The Seas will improve once he learns to settle better and this year's Guineas lacks a real standout candidate. This colt, along with stablemate One Ruler, can serve it up the Ballydoyle brigade.
