If Campanelle does stay further than sprint trips, I suspect it will be in the US where there can be less of an emphasis on stamina.

She did her best work in the Morny in the final furlong, which offers some hope about her getting beyond 6f, but I would be sceptical about her lining up on the Rowley Mile next spring for the 1,000 Guineas.

A far more likely destination would be a return to Royal Ascot for the Commonwealth Cup, a race she looks tailor-made for at a meeting her trainer loves.

Pedigree suggests sprints the way to go

I'll be surprised if Campanelle develops into a Classic contender because she looks all speed.

Frankie Dettori had to keep a good hold of her head in the early stages of the Prix Morny to make sure she didn’t overrace and Nando Parrado was coming back at her near the line.

Campanelle’s dam was a juvenile winner over 5f and she is a half-sister to four sprint winners out of a 5f Group 3 winner. There appears more speed than stamina in the pedigree.

Don't risk running Campanelle over further

After such a gutsy performance on ground that wasn't ideal, I can see why the temptation might be there to have a crack at a Classic next season. However, Wesley Ward is the master of sprinters and with a filly that holds such blistering speed I think he is much more likely to keep her to shorter distances.

The likes of Lady Aurelia and No Nay Never did not run over a mile or further and a crack at the Commonwealth Cup next year looks a lot more possible.

Campanelle looks one of the most promising sprinters in the world, why take an unnecessary risk running her over further?
