Bold front-running plan pays off as Storm Chaser bolts up for 26-length victory
Thursday: Nottingham
Apprentice jockey Rose Dawes left her rivals behind with enterprising front-running tactics deployed to perfection on Storm Chaser, who ran out an unchallenged 26-length winner of the 1m6f apprentice handicap.
The pair were quickly away from the stalls and built up a sizable advantage in the first part of the race. From five furlongs in she had gained an advantage of over 20 lengths and there was no stopping the Mick Channon-trained five-year-old, who kept on as Hidden Pearl led home a six-strong chasing pack.
It continues a good run of form for the apprentice rider with this being her third victory from seven rides in the last fortnight.
"I don't know what the handicapper will make of it, she'll probably go up [42lb] to 105." joked Channon. "She was light years ahead of the others, that's all I can put it down to.
"I thought she had a chance but I was never expecting that. The horse is a prominent free-goer so we decided to go forward on her but the rest I don't know what happened. The mare's in foal so we'll see what happens next."
Excellent form
Lewis Edmunds is another jockey in top form. He inspired mid-race leader Snapcracklepop to get back up and beat 6-4 favourite
Flaming Lord in the closing stages of the 1m½f handicap. Edmunds has now had six winners from his last 21 rides.
One to note
The Patrick Owens-trained Wahaaj displayed his class with an impressive debut success in the 6f maiden.
