Gordon Elliott dominated the headlines on the course as well as off them as he carded a 122-1 four-timer, three of them ridden by Jack Kennedy.

The opening Grade 3 Quevega Mares Hurdle was hit by non-runners, including the late withdrawal of probable favourite Great White Shark, leaving 2-5 shot Black Tears to score by five lengths from The Getaway Star.

The victory was the first leg of a treble for Kennedy, who said: "It was very straightforward. She jumped and travelled well, picked off the leader easily and just idled up the straight."

Kennedy went on to complete his treble with a win on Papal Lodge in the first division of the 2m maiden hurdle, followed by success on the impressive 16-1 shot Coach Carter.

The five-year-old got in as first reserve and quickened well to score by three and a half lengths.

Impressive Mighty Potter

The most impressive of the Elliott winning quartet came in the closing bumper, when newcomer Mighty Potter scored for Jamie Codd and owners Andrew and Gemma Brown.

The French-bred four-year-old took care of some smart rivals as he quickened clear to score by five lengths from the once-raced Wild Hunt, with some nice newcomers in their wake.

Codd said: "He's the first of our stores to run that we bought last year. Joey Logan bought him for Andrew and Gemma Brown and you can see that he's a gorgeous horse.

"He had been really pleasing in his home work and has put in a good display there. We'll see what Gordon wants to do with him. That could be it for the year or he could keep him for jumping, it's a nice predicament to have.

"He is really promising. The owners bought him and Grand Paradis as stores, they're starting to get into a nice calibre of horse."

Atlantic looks Naas bound

The Pertemps qualifier on the card looks as though it will have moot value for the final at Cheltenham, with winner Atlantic Shore set to contest the Leinster National at Naas two days before the start of the festival.

The eight-year-old took full advantage of his more lenient hurdles mark and stayed on strongly under Brian Hayes from the final flight to see off Sassy Yet Classy by a length and a half.

Trainer Phillip Fenton said: "The Leinster National is his target and hopefully we can get a bit of rain before then. The Irish National might come into the reckoning after that, but a lot of it depends on the weather.

"He couldn't win a maiden hurdle but we came here with his hurdles mark being so much better than his rating over fences, though he's really a chaser.

"He was very sweet today, he can be a bit moody, so hopefully we can keep him in that frame of mind."
