Aurora Princess in correct race this time but proves no match for Miss Myers

Miss Myers ended a drought which stretched all the way back to October 2019 when swooping late to land the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Connacht Oaks in the colours of former Horse Racing Ireland chairman Joe Keeling.

Aurora Princess ran in the right race this time, eight days after she won a juvenile maiden rather than running in a three-year-old handicap at Galway, but she could finish only fourth to the Michael Grassick-trained filly after being badly hampered inside the final furlong.

Miss Myers had run 21 times since winning a Limerick maiden but she was rewarded for a string of consistent efforts as she finished best of all under Billy Lee to beat Pachmena by a length and a quarter.

Lee, who received a two-day ban from the stewards afterwards, said: "I'm delighted. She deserved that as she had a couple of good runs in defeat lately. She took me into the race well and won well at the line. That was a nice pot and we'll be hoping there’s another day in her."

Off the mark

The 5½f maiden, as the betting suggested, developed into a match between Areille and Arges but it was the second favourite who found the most when it mattered.

Areille had caught the eye when fourth on her debut at Fairyhouse last month and she stepped up on that to make it second time lucky under Shane Foley for Ken Condon.
