Newly formed syndicate Roudee Racing's dreams of having a runner at Chester's May festival could become a reality after Devious Angel gave the owners their first success in the 5f novice.

The Tom Dascombe-trained filly made easy work of the six-runner contest to score by five and a half lengths under Jane Elliott, setting up an immediate rise in class for her next assignment.

Dascombe said: “It was really pleasing to see. We thought she was good, which is why we ran her at Newmarket. The owners are locally based and they're desperate to have a runner at Chester.”

The syndicate, which is headed by Mike Edwards and Dylan Jenkins, may find their hopes answered as the two-year-old filly will be aimed at the Lily Agnes Conditions Stakes.

The trainer added: "She won’t take an awful lot of training between now and then, but she is Chester bound. She’s got plenty of gate speed and the only thing she needs is a reasonable draw to have a solid chance.”

Devious Angel’s success ended a drought for Elliott, who had not ridden a winner since October.

“She’s had a difficult time," Dascombe said. “She was doing so well and rode out her claim in 2019 and it just never got going for her last year. She's hugely dedicated and she’s as good as she ever was, there’s no doubt about that.”

Fellowes double

Charlie Fellowes struck with Little Gem in the 7f handicap and followed up when Soros ran out a ready winner of the 2m½f handicap.

Little Gem's success was the first winner in more than a decade for owner Eric Buddle, who had last tasted victory in September 2010.
