Tuesday: Leicester

A potentially intriguing outsider for the Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle was unearthed when Bowtogreatness dominated his rivals in the 2m4½f novice hurdle.

The smart-looking six-year-old defied a penalty by striking by eight and a half lengths, impressing his rider Kielan Woods and trainer Ben Pauling.

Bowtogreatness, owned by Harry Redknapp and the trainer’s wife Sophie, was cut to 50-1 (from 66) for the Albert Bartlett, for which he was one of 52 entries on Tuesday, by William Hill.

Pauling said: “Bowtogreatness is a nice horse. We liked him last season but he took a while to come to himself. This season he’s been a different animal. Kielan said he was relentless out there and we gave him an entry for the Albert Bartlett today as he just gallops and jumps.

“We might go there or find something easier. He’s a great, big, raw type and it’s nice to have one like him again – his work had been exceptional coming into this.

“He would be an outsider in the Albert Bartlett but he’s not been chucked in the deep end yet and he’s not short of ability.”

Mystery revealed

There was press room speculation but no answer as to the identification of a group of gentleman who arrived on track by helicopter around midday, but all was revealed after Just Don’t Know landed the 2m4f novice handicap chase.

Hawick trainer Paul Robson and connections took to the sky to make the trip from Scotland and returned victorious with Craig Nichol’s mount scoring by a length and three quarters.

Robson, whose father Adam was a permit trainer, celebrated his second winner since taking out a full licence six months ago.

Robson, who has 17 horses in training, said: “We knew it was a bit of a trek to come down, but this was a nice race for him and there weren’t many for him in the north.

“We’re trying our best to source nice horses and we have enviable facilities, so we’re just trying to build our profile.”

On his first helicopter flight, Robson said: “It was a lovely big, twin-engine helicopter and we were here in about an hour. It took the horsebox five and a half hours yesterday, so I wouldn’t mind travelling in style like that every day.”

Sky delivers

Mr Grey Sky is a name to note after landing the 1m7½f handicap hurdle.

The Kim Bailey-trained eight-year-old was a dual bumper winner but has been lightly raced since, however he showed he retains plenty of ability with a near five-length win under David Bass.

Bailey said: "He's a big, strong chasing type and had a lot of issues, so I'm really pleased to see him win for Phil Andrews, who is a big supporter."

Outsider strikes

Prairie Town belied his 40-1 odds to gain a second course victory in the 2m6½f handicap chase for Tony Carroll and Harry Bannister.

His surprise success was followed by 4-6 favourite Golden Boy Grey being turned over by the Pam Sly-trained Xcitations in the three-runner feature 2m novice handicap chase.
