Main Fact extended his remarkable winning sequence to nine when staying on to land the Grade 3 Stayers' Handicap Hurdle at Haydock.

The seven-year-old finished two and three-quarter lengths clear of Third Wind under a powerful ride from 7lb claimer Fergus Gillard.

Main Fact, who is trained by David Pipe for the Munrowd's Partnership, was introduced at 25-1 for the Paddy Power Stayers' Hurdle in March.

Gillard, winning on Main Fact for a fourth time, said: "He has an extraordinary way of going in his races and I was panicking most of the way because of the bad ground. It's amazing how he keeps galloping.

9 wins
6 jumps
3 Flat
5 winning jockeys
56.75 aggregate winning distance

£106,771.98 winning prize-money

“It's such a long way up the home straight and I thought they'd come back to me. He was going nowhere and then he came alive. It's incredible to have a horse like this and when these chances come along, you've got to grab them with both hands."

Main Fact's prolific winning run began in January off a mark of 104 at Warwick and seven wins later, including three on the Flat, saw him appear at Haydock on a mark of 147.

Saturday's victory means Pipe has now compiled a longer winning streak than any horse trained by his father Martin, who saddled Indian Jockey to win eight in a row in 1997.
