Race of champions memorabilia under the hammer at Plumpton
Memorabilia from the 'race of champions' between Lester Piggott and John Francome, which took place at Warwick nearly 32 years ago, will be among the prized lots put up for auction at the Injured Jockeys Fund charity raceday to be held at Plumpton tomorrow.
Photos and numbercloths signed by both the legendary jockeys, and the winner's rug, collected from their racecourse clash on May 18 1985, will be sold in aid of the IJF charity.
The other lots going under the hammer are a weekend camping ticket to the Walled Garden Festival, Brightling Park on July 14-16; four Richmond Enclosure admission badges to Goodwood, including lunch in the Charlton Restaurant for any raceday outside of the Glorious meeting; breakfast and tour of the British Racing School and four members passes to the Longines International Gold Cup at Hickstead on July 30.
Among 17 silent auction lots is a morning on the gallops with Nicky Henderson, two tickets to the Galway Festival plus season passes to Sandown and an annual membership at Newbury.
Before racing gets under way jockeys past and present will take part in a spacehopper race, the Grand Hop Gold Cup, down the home straight. The spacehoppers will be autographed by riders and also auctioned.
Anyone interested in making a bid who is unable to attend can do so by email to Lucy Charnock at lucy@ijf.org.uk or by phoning 07789 910742 before noon on Monday.
