Punter stung in scam by fake Twitter bookie

A punter has been conned out of £1,000 by an apparent con-artist posing as an independent bookmaker on Twitter.

Colin Black, 61, deposited money via bank transfer with the individual, who was posing as a bookmaker called Henry Knowels Racing and claiming to operate a shop in Norfolk.

However, the Racing Post has established that no such firm exists and the legitimate Gambling Commission licence reference given by the account operator to another victim belongs to an independent bookmaker with no connection to the case.
