Wickow Brave out to add another chapter to his impressive CV
Guinness Open Gate Brewery Novice Chase (Grade 3) | 4yo+|2m2f54yds| RTE2/RTV
Wicklow Brave, who made a belated and successful start over fences at Ballinrobe in May, will attempt to notch win number 16 of his remarkable career, which includes a win in the Irish St Leger and a Grade 1 victory over hurdles.
The ten-year-old, who won on the Flat at the meeting a year ago, faces seven rivals including stablemates Cool Colonnade and Robin De Carlow.
Trainer Willie Mullins said on Wednesday: "Wicklow Brave has been an amazing horse for us and did well to win his first chase. He seems in good form, but we'll have to see if he has enough experience over fences for this type of test.
"Cool Colonnade is two from two over fences and has won over the trip, but whether he'll be good enough for this remains to be seen. His hurdle rating suggests he mightn't be.
Zero Ten, trained by Emmet Mullins, made a winning start over fences when scoring over the course and trip on Tuesday, but whether the talented six-year-old will line up today was described as "50-50" by his trainer.
Speaking on Wednesday, Mullins said: "We decided to give ourselves another 24 hours to declare him, but we'll see how he is in the morning before deciding."
Henry de Bromhead is represented by Moon Over Germany, who delivered his best performance when landing the Red Rum Handicap Chase by ten lengths at Aintree in April, and Jan Maat, who got off the mark over fences with a decisive win at Tipperary 11 days ago.
