For the casual racing fan, it suffices to say the Platinum Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot and the July Cup at Newmarket are both run over a stiff six furlongs. The statement is factually correct. Yet even within those strict confines, there is room for them to be significantly different.

Racing Post standard times show overall Ascot takes more getting. The standard over six furlongs there is 72.3 seconds, at Newmarket it is 70.2 seconds. Longer races test stamina more.
