One of this season's superstars, Caravaggio, is out today and up in trip (slightly) in the Group 1 Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville (2.45).

The extra half furlong is sure to help Ballydoyle's relentless galloping sprinter and he is joined by the likes of Magical Memory, Brando and Bound For Nowhere in a clash with locals such as Signs Of Blessing, Rosa Imperial and Fas.

And that's not all. Abingdon attempts to become Ballymacoll's final Group winner in the Haras Firmamento Prix de Pomone (3.23) and Wuheida, who skipped the Nassau, is in action in Germany in the Group 1 German Oaks (2.55 Dusseldorf).

There's also an absolute cracker at Galway - yep, that's still going - with Shaneshill taking on Road To Riches over fences (4.30).

While one of the sport's biggest female names is coming back, another is going nowhere. Lady Aurelia is staying in training next year.

Frankie Dettori won the big race yesterday, the £250,000 Stewards' Cup. He was pretty happy about it.

Final thought

Today's high-class action from France will take on added intrigue in the wake of Hayley Turner's announced comeback. This time next year could we see Britain's most successful female rider once again flying the flag on Group 1 days, or will the attitudes the rule was brought in to displace continue to make it difficult for female riders in France?
