Baaeed: would need to beat Adayar by more than five lengths to boost RPR of 138Credit: Edward Whitaker

Frankel produced the best performances in the history of Racing Post Ratings when twice running to 143 in 2012. In siring Frankel, Galileo achieved the uncommon feat of producing a horse better than himself, an accomplishment almost matched this year by Sea The Stars when Baaeed equalled the 138 RPR his illustrious sire achieved in the 2009 Irish Champion Stakes.

Those two performances are the closest any horse on turf has come to Frankel’s level in the 23 years since Daylami also won the Irish Champion Stakes in 1999, underlining just how infrequently these generational talents appear.

Baaeed has the opportunity to push himself higher still in the Champion Stakes, but what sort of performance would it actually take for him to rate even closer to Frankel?
