The Norfolk track was hit by 18mm of rain in almost as many minutes during racing a week ago and there is the forecast of further significant rainfall on the east coast in advance of Wednesday's seven race card headlined by this £11,500 feature.

Among those unworried by the prospect of softer ground is Ed Vaughan, who trains topweight Interconnection, and he is hopeful his stalwart can excel over what looks his ideal trip.

Fellow Newmarket runner First Voyage, trained by Charlie Appleby, is, in contrast, trying to find his optimum conditions after disappointing over further when well fancied on his reappearance at Haydock last month.

The son of Dubawi was sent off 6-5 favourite before finishing third to Marmajuke Bay over one mile three and a half furlongs that day and has since worked well at Moulton Paddocks.

Of the trio of three-year-olds in the line up, Morning Suit steps into the unknown trip-wise after his gallant second to Examiner over a mile at Salisbury last time.

Seniors hold sway

This race has been staged only twice in the past three years and on both occasions it was won by the older brigade, most recently Heisman (6-1) a year ago.

What they say

Ed Vaughan, trainer of Interconnection
He's definitely better with some cut in the ground these days, so we're hoping the forecast is right. The galloping track should suit him and the trip looks just about perfect. There are some unexposed types in there but we expect him to run a nice race.

William Muir, trainer of Mikmak
We're hoping the rain materialises as he's a different horse on soft ground. He's been in good form at home of late but will struggle if it stays fast.

Charlie Appleby, trainer of First Voyage
He was working very well before his comeback run at Haydock but he disappointed there, although he may not have got the trip. We're dropping him back in trip and putting the cheekpieces back on, in which he broke his maiden last year. He's worked well since and we're hoping he can get back in the game.

Chris Dwyer, trainer of Bint Dandy
She's very well and we're trying a new trip on turf for her, although she wouldn't want too much rain. She likes Yarmouth and we're hoping for a good run.

Hugo Palmer, trainer of Omeros
He may have needed his comeback run at Haydock and we're looking forward to stepping him up in trip. Any rain is vital to his chances.
