Varian confident Steve Rogers' Scottish trip won't be wasted

The Archerfield Cup was inaugurated in 2013 and its three renewals to date have been won by either Mark Johnston or Keith Dalgleish. Both trainers are represented again this year, doubly so in Johnston's case, but word has clearly spread about this £25,000 staying event as among the field of eight are a few horses we would expect to see in the very best races of its type.
Perhaps the most famous name is Steve Rogers, a strong 7-2 favourite in the Chester Cup a couple of starts back. He coped perfectly well with the drop to a mile and six furlongs at Ascot last time and trainer Roger Varian seemed confident yesterday.
