Trainer quotes and analysis as O'Brien bids to equal Railway Stakes record

GAIN Railway Stakes (Group 2) | 6f | 2yo | RTV & RTE2

The roll of honour for this Group 2 reads like a who's who of Irish racing. Before Rock Of Gibraltar, George Washington and Holy Roman Emperor, there was El Gran Senor and Nijinsky, while last year's winner Siskin didn't turn out too badly either.

After sending out King Of Kings to win this race for the first time in 1997, Aidan O'Brien has been successful on 12 occasions since, but that doesn't make him the most successful trainer of the race's history.

That title belongs to the former master of Ballydoyle, Vincent O'Brien. However, Aidan could equal Vincent’s haul of 14 wins in the race should Merchants Quay or Forest Of Dreams oblige.

Both colts have plenty in their favour. Merchants Quay was impressive over course and distance last time while second string Forest Of Dreams was a decisive winner at Navan over five and a half furlongs.

Jessica Harrington has had horses run well in this without winning and will be hoping to break her duck with Lucky Vega, while last year's winning trainer Ger Lyons will be winning the race for a third time if successful with To Glory.

What they say

Paddy Twomey, trainer of Arctician
He has come out of the Marble Hill Stakes in good form. He is very well in himself and this looks the logical next step. I’m happy with him.

Aidan O'Brien, trainer of Merchants Quay and Forest Of Dreams
Merchants Quay won well over the course and distance the last day and he seems to be a horse who is progressing with each run. He's in good form and we're happy with him. Forest Of Dreams did it nicely at Navan and he's also progressive.

Ken Condon, trainer of Laws Of Indices
He made nice progress from his first to his second run. He doesn't mind the ground but his form needs to go up another level to be competitive. He's in good form and is training well. Hopefully he's a lively outsider.
