Three runners who catch the eye at Dundalk and Newcastle tonight
A double-header on the all-weather this evening with racing under the floodlights at Dundalk and Newcastle. Both races are on At The Races, with Dundalk (5.30pm) kicking things off and Newcastle starting 15 minutes later
Bambari
5.30 Dundalk
Having achieved the lofty rating of 53, before dropping back down to 48, it seemed a peculiar decision to stick with Bambari.
However, the four-year-old returned from more tha a year off to make a stylish winning reappearance over course and distance.
Up just 1lb for that victory (to an official rating of 46), Bambari looks well placed to make up for lost time provided he does not bounce this evening.
Majdool
8.15 Newcastle
Not many horses have a ‘L’ in their form figures. Unfortunately for Majdool, he is one of them.
The four-year-old reared and got his leg caught in an adjacent stall when he was last at the course three weeks ago, meaning he was unable to take part.
Returning to Newcastle, where he was left, Majdool had previously produced a much-improved fourth over tonight’s course and distance on his penultimate outing.
Kiwi Bay
8.45 Newcastle
What a fabulous horse Kiwi Bay is. Tonight the evergreen 12-year-old races for the 133rd time and seeks his 14th success.
His most recent win came at Redcar in July, which was his third win of the year after handicap successes at Newcastle and Ayr. A fantastic effort from the old boy.
Among his rivals are a pair of nine-year-olds and a handful of three-year-olds, who the veteran will no doubt be giving his all to beat.
