Tonight's racing: three horses it could pay to follow
Friday night might mean going out on the town but no-one would blame you if you decided to stay at home, put your feet up and tune into the action on Racing UK and At The Races. There is action from Group 1 tracks Newmarket (first race 5.35) and York (6.00), while Chepstow starts at 5.50. In Ireland, Wexford (5.30) and Down Royal (5.55) also host meetings.
Ajman Princess
7.30 York
A 1-20 winner of a maiden at Lingfield in March, Ajman Princess has stepped forward from that although she was entitled to given she was second in the Ribblesdale last year. She won a Listed race at Goodwood in May before coming third in two Group heats at Haydock. Those races were all over 1m4f, but in-form trainer Roger Varian is keen to test her at 1m2½f. He also reckons conditions should suit, although the four-year-old concedes weight to her seven rivals.8.10 Newmarket
John Gosden should know a St Leger horse when he sees one given he has won the world's oldest Classic four times and it seems he has seen some Doncaster potential in Pouvoir Magique, who takes in a handicap this evening. An easy winner at 1-12 at Ayr last time, he is among seven Clarehaven St Leger entries and must surely have room to manoeuvre from a perch of 88 if those aims are to be realised. 9.00 Down Royal
Colin Keane was aboard this three-year-old when he won a claimer last time, but got a ban so cannot ride tonight when trainer Ger Lyons is expecting another decent effort. Gary Carroll takes over on Buffalo Blues, not the most straightforward ride according to Lyons, who rates the son of Harbour Watch even if he has some growing up to do.
