Japan Racing Association Tyros Stakes (Group 3) | 7f | 2yo | RTV

Why is it interesting?

A race with a rich history, this Group 3 event has been won by many subsequent high-achievers this century including Teofilo, New Approach, Gleneagles, Churchill and Derby winner Anthony Van Dyck.

Aidan O'Brien has sent out 12 winners of the Tyros and is represented by Armory, the mount of Ryan Moore, and the Donnacha O'Brien-ridden Toronto, winner of a mile maiden at the course last month.

Armory will be renewing rivalry with the Ger Lyons-trained Justifier, who he finished third behind over the course and distance on debut last month before overcoming traffic problems to win well at the Curragh.

Four of the five runners have won maidens, while the Willie McCreery-trained Innervisions, the only filly in the line-up, finished third over the trip on her debut at the Curragh last month.

A daughter of Dubawi, she is out of Fiesolana, who was a Group 1 winner for McCreery at this course five years ago.

What do the stats say?

Aidan O'Brien has sent out the last five winners of the race with four starting odds-on, Deauville being the exception in 2015.

Ger Lyons, trainer of Justifier, was successful with Exogenesis (renamed Mr Genuine in Hong Kong) in 2013 before the Ballydoyle sequence began.

What do the trainers say?

Aidan O'Brien, trainer of Armory and Toronto
We were delighted with Armory when he won his maiden at the Curragh. We were going to send him for the Superlative Stakes at Newmarket but he wasn't quite 100 per cent. He seems fine now and is ready to go again. Toronto won a mile maiden over the course on his second start last month and is in good form.

Michael Halford, trainer of Zarzyni
He's been in great form since his win at Gowran Park and has come forward nicely in his work. It looks a very strong race, but I'm very happy with him and expect him to go well.

What out tipsters say

Aidan O'Brien has won the last five editions of this event, including with Classic winners Gleneagles, Churchill and Anthony Van Dyck. ARMORY showed a devastating burst of speed to win at the Curragh and can probably reverse the form of his course and distance debut with Justifier.
