The Darley July Cup (3.35) at Newmarket is a rare omission from Frankie Dettori's glittering CV and the star jockey will bid to set the record straight aboard Sceptical, who is weak in the market for the day's feature race at a general 9-2.

The leading rider, who has attempted to land the Group 1 21 times since 1990, has twice finished second, including last year when Advertise was beaten by just under three lengths by Ten Sovereigns.

Dettori was aboard the Denis Hogan-trained Sceptical at Royal Ascot last month, when he finished half a length behind Hello Youmzain in third in the Diamond Jubilee.

Hello Youmzain has been backed into 7-2 (from 9-2) to overturn Commonwealth Cup winner Golden Horde, who has also come in for sustained support and heads the market at a solid 9-4.

The ground at Newmarket has improved to good to soft for the final day of the July festival, having been soft for the opening two days.

Heavy rain led to a spate of non-runners on Thursday and Friday but after a dry night the going was changed on Saturday morning. The forecast is for sunny spells with temperatures of up to 21 degrees.

We also have action to look forward to from Ascot, which stages the Group 2 Betfred Summer Mile Stakes (3.15). The going at the track is good and the forecast is for a dry, sunny afternoon.
