Tense times on the Knavesmire as big-name youngsters test their reputations
Everyone in Flat racing knows the value of a big reputation and trainers are understandably keen to protect and preserve any that happen to be attached to their charges.
Expect great tension, therefore, over the next couple of days at York when some highly promising and well-regarded young animals are sent out with the twin aims of justifying their status and preparing for bigger days on the near horizon.
What a thrill to see High Definition's name among the declarations for Thursday's Dante. This time last week his position as Derby favourite seemed secure and we could imagine him relaxing smugly at home as one potential rival after another was weighed in the balance and found wanting.
