'She has a good each-way chance' - key quotes for the Listed Rose Bowl

Rogue Lightning made such an impression when winning on his debut at Newmarket last month he earned quotes for the 2,000 Guineas (40-1 by Paddy Power), so it'll be exciting to see whether the son of Kodiac can take another step forward in this Listed event.

He was impressive enough to record a Racing Post Rating of 93 when winning by four and a half lengths last time, but that still leaves him needing to take that step forward because there are several others who have higher RPRs at these weights.

They are headed by Believing, the sole filly in the line-up. She also recorded a RPR of 93 when fourth behind Lezoo in the Empress Fillies' Stakes at Newmarket last time, but she gets the 5lb fillies' allowance. That puts her on top on RPRs – 3lb clear of Legend Of Xanadu.

Legend Of Xanadu and Chateau come here after defeats at Royal Ascot and it was Chateau who performed best of the pair there when fourth behind Little Big Bear in the Windsor Castle. He was no stronger than at the finish that day, so this longer trip promises to suit.

The final word goes to New Definition, who, like Rogue Lightning, steps up in class having won a novice event last time and is now fitted with first-time cheekpieces. Trainer James Tate is 5-20 (25 per cent) with juveniles in the sheepskin for a £1 level-stake profit of £2.50.

What they say

James Tate, trainer of New Definition
He won nicely last time and deserves to take his chance at Listed level and hopefully he can pick up some black type. Prior to his win, he lost a shoe when second to a nice one of Roger Varian's at Leicester so he's entitled to step up on that.

James Toller, assistant to William Jarvis, trainer of Pembrokeshire
He won well on his debut at Yarmouth the other day and the runner-up won back there on Wednesday night, which was a nice boost. We took the view it was better tackling this off level weights than a novice with a penalty when you can run into a Group horse. He's entitled to have a go at this level and the horses continue to run well.

Jack Mitchell, rider of Rogue Lightning
I liked him when I won on him first time at Newmarket and the second came out and won at Chester the other day. The only thing that may let him down is his lack of experience as one leg was in Cambridgeshire and the other in Suffolk when I went for him that day. Ideally, he'll get a lead as he's not short of speed.

George Boughey, trainer of Believing
She's taking on the colts for the first time and hopefully can get some cover as she saw plenty of daylight when fourth in a Listed race at Newmarket last time. She's in good form and would have a good each-way chance.
