Sceaux solid and Politologue popular as they aim to derail Defi Du Seuil
Defi Du Seuil is a firm favourite for today's Betfair Tingle Creek at Sandown as he aims to announce himself as a new poster boy of the two-mile division, but the sponsor report solid support for previous winners Politologue and Un De Sceaux, whose presence means the JP McManus-owned ace will not have thing all his own way.
The Shloer Chase winner is a general 7-4 for the Tingle Creek, while Un De Sceaux, who won the race in 2016, is 4-1.
Politologue, successful in it a year later, is third in at 9-2.
"Defi Du Seuil is steady enough at 15-8 on the Betfair Exchange, but with there being the dead eight runners we are seeing strong each-way support for Politologue and Un De Sceaux on the Sportsbook and I'd expect that support to continue as punters look for a Christmas-present priced alternative to the short-price favourite," Betfair's Barry Orr said this morning.
The Tingle Creek (3.00) is due to be run on ground described as soft, good to soft in places, while Sandown's hurdle course is deemed heavy, soft in places after no overnight rain.
A dry mild day is forecast for the afternoon, which also includes the Grade 1 Read Road To Cheltenham At Racingtv.com Henry VIII Novices' Chase (1.50), which was won by a certain Altior three years ago.
At Aintree, the going is good to soft on the conventional chase and hurdle courses, while it is now soft, good to soft in places on the Grand National circuit, which is used today for the Randox Health Becher Chase (1.30) and Virgin Bet Grand Sefton Handicap Chase (3.15).
The track also hosts Native River v Might Bite – the first two in last year's epic Cheltenham Gold Cup – in the Virgin Bet Price Boosts Many Clouds Chase (2.40).
The outlook on Merseyside today is largely dry and temperatures could hit 9C.
