Ruth Carr hoping for Perfect night at Hamilton as stalwart reaches three figures
Perfect by name, perfect by nature. That has been the theme of Be Perfect's time at Ruth Carr's North Yorkshire stable and the ten-year-old will be looking to endear himself even more to his trainer by winning on his 100th start in the amateur riders' handicap at Hamilton (6.05) on Thursday evening.
Be Perfect, who has won 14 of his 99 races and finished second or third on 22 other occasions, joined Carr from David Nicholls for the start of the 2015 season and has been a firm favourite at the yard ever since.
"We call him 'Perfect' as he's been an absolute joy to have in training," said Carr. "He's won his races every year and has been a very sound horse. He's never any bother – he's good to clip and shoe – and he likes going out in the field with his mates."
Be Perfect was ridden by Emily Bullock when third at Ripon last week and the pair continue the association in the 1m5f contest, which kicks off the track's annual charitable Saints & Sinners night.
"Last time we decided to leave the headgear off and take a lead with him and we'll probably do the same again as we think he may just have gone a little bit stale from going out in front and the rest heading him," said Carr.
"He's won at Hamilton before and is well handicapped on his best form – he just needs everything to drop right."
The trainer, who parts owns Be Perfect with The Beer Stalkers, already has an eye on the son of Street Cry's future after racing.
"Everybody likes riding him at home and he'd be one of those you'd be half inclined to keep as a lead horse or hack because he's a good lad to have around the place," she said.
