The Fillies' Mile is the pre-eminent trial for the following season's 1,000 Guineas but winning the juvenile Group 1 is not a prerequisite to achieving Classic glory.
The last four Guineas winners – Cachet, Mother Earth, Love and Hermosa – were all beaten on the Rowley Mile at two before making giant strides to write their names in the history books at Newmarket at three.
