Rattling quick ground set to suit Palmer's Unforgetable Filly
Hugo Palmer doesn't believe that last month's eight-length stroll at Haydock represents the limits of Unforgetable Filly's ability, and hopes the Listed Muhaarar British EBF Rosemary Stakes (1.50) represents a decent opportunity for further progress.
"I ran her on soft ground twice at the end of last year – once at Doncaster, which was avoidable, and once when the heavens opened in Keeneland – and I think she lost a lot of confidence," said Palmer, whose charge must shoulder a 3lb penalty for her Haydock victory.
"I'm delighted to say there isn't a cloud in the sky at Newmarket and hopefully she'll get the rattling quick ground that she needs. I think she's improved for the fitting of blinkers and she's run well at Newmarket before."
Three-year-old Agrotera bounced back from a poor effort behind Unforgetable Filly when coming within a head of resisting Poetic Charm under a fine ride from Jamie Spencer at Longchamp last time.
"It was a good step back in the right direction after the flop at Haydock and she proved her versatility, having come from last in the Sandringham," said Ed Walker. "We've got a lot of ground to make up with Unforgetable Filly but we wouldn't be here if we didn't believe we could."
Star out to Rock for older generation
Mrs Sippy has the Listed honours to prove her worth and Sun Maiden retains a big reputation but, in Star Rock, Hughie Morrison is hopeful that he has a filly to repel that talented pair of three-year-olds in the Group 3 Princess Royal Nayef Stakes (2.25)
Third when not finding the clearest of passages at Goodwood, Star Rock then just failed to run down Sky Full of Stars in the Group 2 T Von Zastrow Stutenpreis at Baden-Baden.
"I think she was a little bit unlucky at both Goodwood and in Germany, and we’d love to win a Group race with her," said Hughie Morrison. "It's competitive but we’ll be doing our best."
Mrs Sippy was settled at the rear of a slow pace by Jamie Spencer, but still had far too much for her rivals in the Prix des Tourelles 16 days ago.
With a faster gallop expected here, the David Simcock-trained daughter of Blame could be seen to even better effect.
While Sun Maiden is the equal of Star Rock on ratings thanks to her third-placed effort behind Magic Wand in the Ribblesdale, though her two subsequent runs have been less convincing.
