Raise a glass to Toast Of New York as star headlines Wednesday action

There is a clear headline act today as Toast Of New York, a horse many thought they had seen the last of on a racecourse returns to action at Lingfield.

He came within a nose of pulling off what would have been an extraordinary victory in the 2014 Breeders' Cup Classic at Santa Anita for trainer Jamie Osborne.

Sidelined by injury and then sent off to stud he has been nursed back to health and his appearance today under Frankie Dettori will be his first run in Britain since November 2013.

Lingfield is one of three all-weather meetings with Dundalk followed by twilight action from Newcastle. The jumping comes from Ludlow and Haydock.

It may sound pie in the sky for Jamie Osborne to have ambitions of challenging for the Pegasus World Cup with Toast Of New York after injury and so long off but there will be a lot of goodwill that he can. The horse was poised to become a genuine dirt star until his setback dashed all dreams.
